Alternative Energies Area - UNPA

We are located at the tip of Southern Patagonia, and we work on wind and solar energy systems, resource measurements and applications

Research

The "Carlos Luna Pont" AEA (Alternative Energies) Group at UNPA is a research group within the framework of the Institute of Applied Technology, dedicated to the study and dissemination of clean and renewable energy sources. We also study energy storage mechanisms such as different types of batteries and hydrogen, with emphasis in measurements relative to systems that use these sources, and their applicability in the southern Patagonian environment.

Latest Publications

Technical Summary - AEA and latest publications

The Alternative Energies Area (AEA) of the Academic Units of Río Gallegos and Puerto San Julián has been developing basic and applied research activities on wind and solar renewable resources available in Southern Patagonia, in the case of UARG since 1994 and in the UASJ since 2000. Current activities are framed in Research Projects 29 / A412 ("Application of embedded systems and wireless communications to measurement equipment for renewable energies") and 29 / D084 ("Study and application of international regulations for hybrid wind-solar systems and for determining power curves and duration tests for low-capacity wind power equipment ”). Emphasis has been placed on measuring these resources, setting up small systems for their use, and evaluating their performance through embedded recording systems. In this context, the development of its own data acquisition equipment (SISMED) stands out, which have evolved according to the requirements of each research project. In the last projects, it is mainly wind and photovoltaic equipment coupled to educational greenhouses, and in the collection and processing of energy production data from said systems.
